The IRS has announced tax relief for individuals and businesses affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding that impacted portions of Indiana beginning August 11, 2026. Eligible taxpayers now have until February 1, 2027, to file many federal tax returns and make certain tax payments that were due between August 11, 2026, and February 1, 2027.

What This Means for Taxpayers

If you live in or operate a business within one of the designated disaster areas, you may qualify for additional time to:

  • File individual income tax returns
  • File business, partnership, and S corporation returns
  • Make quarterly estimated tax payments
  • File certain payroll and excise tax returns
  • Complete other time-sensitive tax-related actions
